Tangste is the last major village 34 Kms before Pangong Tso. We booked our room in a guest house in Tangste before heading to Pangong Tso as it would get difficult to find accommodation on coming back from Pangong.
After almost 5 hours journey from Nubra Valley to Tangste, we stopped for 45 mins or so, had maggie and then started towards Pangong Tso, the most awaiting part of our journey.
We stopped at Tangste army check post for checking and they gave us a clean chit. After this we continued towards Pangong lake while enjoying the stunning landscape.
Somewhere after 40-45 mins I asked Rigzin how much time will it take to reach, before he say anything I saw the first glimpse of lake & shouted to stop the car. He smiled and stopped immediately. It was shining blue in the backdrop of brown mountains. We did photography with the board indicating the First view of World famous Pangong Lake.
The lake is 4 kms ahead from this point and I started dreaming of the stunning lake that is looking marvelous enough to leave you amazed from such distance. How it will look like when we’ll be closer to it. It feels like a dream coming true. A place everyone dreams of going and I too have seen in pictures only, but today I am gonna see it with my eyes.
We reached the lake couple of minutes later. As I saw it, I remained spellbound, not even bothered to speak a word. I can now see the best view of the deep blue water, bluer than anything I had seen.
Such magnificence as we seen here was more than I had ever dreamed of, and I could scarcely believe that all the gorgeous colors of lake are real. It was real in front of my eyes, but I thought it still a dream.
It is indeed more beautiful then I ever imagined. Crystal clear water with multiple shades ranging from blue, green and amazing picturesque landscape. I became entirely engrossed with beauty of lake and thanked to god to give me a chance to see and praise his marvelous creation.
We all took countless pictures, videos, time-lapse. Far, far away there was no one other than us around the lake.
Later, we saw the same group who met us at Khardungla top, they stopped there for hardly 10 mins and left the place after a 10 min photography session. The temperature was -10° at that time and we stayed for 1 and half of hour. I wish we could have stayed there for longer but in winters there is no accommodation available by lake side.
Pangong lake is situated at a height of 14270 feet. It is 134 km long and extends from India to China with only one third part lies in India. It is a saline water lake that completely freezes in winters. By now it’s already started freezing on the shores and by the January end-mid february it completely freezes over to a thickness that is sufficient to sustain a weight of XUV.
Its 5PM and By now sun kept sinking and wind grew stronger, so Rigzin suggested to move back to Tangste, our base camp for tonight.
We returned to our guest house, had dinner in their warm and very comfortable common dining room with Bukhari. But in our room we had a gas heater that too for 1-2 hours only, as we can not use it overnight unlike bukhari for safety reasons. We only had our stay with bukhari in Habib Guest House at Nubra valley and that was the warmest night of our stay in Ladakh.
Well, after spending some comfortable time we moved to our rooms and gone to sleep while thinking of the beauty of Pangong lake.
